Description:
Interns will work with NPS staff in collaboration with SUU outdoor recreation Professor Dr. Kelly Goonan, to collect visitor use and transportation data in Bryce Canyon National Park in order to implement the park’s Multimodal Transportation Plan. Primary duties will entail installing, monitoring, and downloading data from traffic counters; field-based data collection along park trails, at viewpoints, at parking lots, and along park roads; assessing impacts to park resources; contacting visitors to participate in a voluntary research study; and some data analysis and reporting.
Housing: Shared government housing will be available. Rent will be paid by the intern.
Qualifications:
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
The ability to work well in a team setting.
Capable of working independently on assignments with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in typing and computer usage.
Willing to spend extended periods of time in the field and comfortable in outdoor environments with limited cell phone service. Park radio will be provided.
Capable of hiking across uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions carrying a field pack, water, and personal supplies.
Capable of field trip planning, logistics, and risk management.
Valid driver’s license.
